New Year (Happy or Not Happy? TBD)
I thought I would at least attempt to gather my thoughts for a focused post. That is just not going to happen when I am having this delicious berry tea after a meal of udon curry.
Instead, I am distracted by reading Fart Party comics (thanks to Lorrie-doo) and watching a Japanese TV drama about prostitution rings and the men who run them (but is actually a love melodrama - yes, I'm rather confused too).
The holidays seemed to run past me, as it seems like it was only yesterday that I met up with Grace and Jeff in Evanston so that I could get my pants that I lost in Mix's bedroom. As risque as that sounds, the actual story is quite uneventful and would bore my bellybutton lint to tears. We plowed through a lovely conversation of career in CSR, Grace's handle of Jager, and Arab male attitude.
If I were to be remotely true to my exciting holiday vacation, I would be posting the beautiful snaps of the chateau in Quebec City, creatures I saw at the Biodome in Montreal, the cute dog at Randy's parents' house, and the gluttonous feast that goes on in the Takasu residence during the winter fattening time. But alas, I am lazy.
I ate a lot, watched some movies, and watched a butt-load of great BBC shows (Black Adder and The Blue Planet -- so addicting! I just sit in awe like a dumb child when I see the footages from this show and makes you want to go diving immediately.) It was quite a laugh to see Hugh Laurie in Black Adder again. Still can't really believe that he's the same man on House. Quite a change...
I have yet to finish an Economist cover-to-cover (I don't know why, but I can never do it), but I am determined to renew the subscription this year. Maybe that will be the new year's resolution - finish an Economist cover-to-cover (one of these days).
Well, any other promise is bound to be broken. 'I see,' said the blind man, as he peed into the wind. 'It's all coming back to me now.'

Saki,
I remember this good old day around Hung Hom station in Hong Kong when you explained me what you disliked about The Economist.
Well not sure you'll manage to read one all this year, but you should certainely have a look at their latest special report about France (october 28th) which contains I believe some of the most accurate and realistic analysis of the situation in France; not for the all report though! (obviously favorising the negative points).
Send me your address and I'll mail you a hard copy!

the economist is geat if only by virtue of the fact that it's 100 times better than Time and 1000 times better than Newsweek...
However, it's not perfect... and I don't recommend trying to read it cover to cover... how boring! I study business but even I am bored by some parts of the "Finance & Economics" section...
Hey I remember Hung Hom, there's a star ferry port there and a KTM connection... ooh I miss HK!

Hahaha. Yes, Clement. I remember having a bit of a miff about the Economist when I spoke to you.
Don't worry. I'm not 100% converted. But I do think it's a pretty comprehensive and convenient way to take in weekly world news. Just need to be careful in understanding where the bias lies.
'Obviously favorising the negative points' - this is coming from a Frenchman who fled his country for Singapore. I'm curious now...
